During your consultation, our P&O specialist (and physiotherapist, if needed) will:

Casting
Depending on your readiness, you may:
  • 🦿Be casted the same day
  • 🦿Receive a pre-prosthetic exercise program
  • 🦿Be given an appointment for casting
What casting involves: A Plaster of Paris (POP) impression is taken of your limb or affected area, followed by measurements. You will then receive a date for your first fitting.
Device Fabrication

Behind the scenes at the workshop:

  • 🛠️ Your cast is filled with POP to create a precise stump/limb model
  • 🛠️ The P&O expert modifies, shapes, and designs your custom mold
  • 🛠️ Fabrication includes lamination, molding, finishing, and static alignment

Timeline:
1 day to several days, depending on complexity or imported components.

First Fitting
On your scheduled date:
  • 🦾 Your device is fitted in a dedicated fitting room
  • 🦾Comfort, alignment, and function are checked
  • 🦾If the fit is approved → you proceed to gait training
Gait Training in the Gym

Under the supervision of a physiotherapist and P&O specialist, you will practice:

  • Standing exercises with your device
  • Walking inside and outside the parallel bars
  • Progressing from supported to independent walking

Duration:
A few days to several weeks, depending on your condition.

Note:
MRDC does not provide accommodation during training; patients must arrange their own stay in Maputo.

Final Checkout & Follow-Up

Once training is successfully completed:

 You receive:

  • Safety guidelines
  • Device usage instructions
  • Maintenance and care tips

 Follow-up care:

Patients are encouraged to return for:

  • Regular check-ups
  • Adjustments
  • Repairs
  • Reassessments
